Smarter energy use starts here: Reading Hydro’s new home advice service

Reading Hydro CBS is launching a new, local, service to give you the confidence and information you need to make your home warmer, cheaper to run, and be more environmentally friendly. It is part of Reading’s 2030 strategy to address the Climate Emergency.

Who is this for?

We want to help residents across Reading. This service is especially useful if you:

  • Have an unpleasantly cold home that’s costing too much to heat
  • Want to make the most of new products and technologies now available
  • Have a lower income and need free help
  • Are planning an extension
  • Are moving in to a new place

What is on offer?

Our Energy Champions will offer impartial advice, including home visits. As trained volunteers, we can:

  • Talk about your priorities
  • Look at how your home uses, and loses, energy.
  • Give you tips on reducing energy use and managing ventilation.
  • Provide information about home improvement grants you might be eligible for
  • Tailor a plan with you.

If you’re curious about bigger changes, like installing heat pumps, solar panels, or doing a full home energy upgrade, we aim to offer more advice.

When does it start?

September 2025. We aim to help as many residents as we can during our first winter season and hope to expand the service in 2026. Bear with us as we get started.

Working with the Community

We are partnering with local organisations and existing experts to offer the best advice to you.

Thank you, Younity!

This has been made possible by Younity through their Powering Communities Fund. It takes the profits from wind, solar, and hydro energy and uses them to support things like keeping food banks stocked, helping neighbours stay warm, saving on energy bills, teaching kids about the green transition, and so much more.
