Parade with Pride to our Picnic

17/08/201917/08/2019 Sally WatermanLeave a comment

What better place to catch up with the people of Reading Hydro than to parade and then picnic together in view of the hydro site?

Reading Hydro PrideThe Reading Pride Parade is an annual opportunity for anyone in the area to show their support of equality and diversity. Reading Hydro will join this family-friendly event to celebrate diversity within and around us. We’ll have music and laughter, and you can even sing and dance along if you fancy it. It’s a great chance to get to know each other and learn more about the project.

11am Saturday 31 August 2019

Meeting outside Metro Bank at Broad Street Mall. Look out for our banner.

Ending by the Pride event at Kings Meadow riverside, below Caversham Lock

Reading Hydro will also have a stall at the Pride event, featuring our scale model and some water toys. Please do volunteer to support the stall for an hour or two, even if you don’t know a lot, as it really helps to have several people at a time.

Picnic

On arrival we’ll picnic near the river. Bring your own food, which you are welcome to share (vegan food is the most shareable). You can also buy lunch at the Pride Marketplace, and bring that to join us.

What better place to catch up with the people of Reading Hydro than to picnic together in view of the site? As part of Wild About Reading, we’re getting outdoors for an after work picnic.

6pm Tuesday 30th July

Kings Meadow riverside, below Caversham Lock

Bring dinner and drinks and if they are veggie/vegan to share, so much the better. Being environmentally inclined is increasingly influencing many of our eating habits, though do eat whatever you like.

Some of the Reading Hydro Team at Reading Water Fest 2019

A continuous stream of interested people stopped to talk to us at Reading Water Fest on Saturday 15th June. Many signed up as new members of Reading Hydro.

David’s beautiful scale model of the technology option focused people’s interest and discussion. We look forward to our next opportunity to talk with local people, at Meadows Day on 6th July at Clayfield Copse, Emmer Green.

Reading Town Meal Hydro Stall 2018 with the Mayor, Chris and Erica

Reading Hydro CBS had a smile-filled day at Reading Town Meal on Saturday. Mayor Debs Edwards visited us, with great understanding of the issues Reading Hydro faces and the unique opportunity the project offers the town. Reading Hydro would put funds back into the community for decades to come, and be a focal point for pride in what our people can achieve together to innovate and improve the environment.

We much enjoyed Debs’ company and that of the wide range of engaged and interesting people that flowed into our space.

Visiting the many other stalls showed what a huge variety of interesting projects and motivated people we have in our community. Thank you so much Food4families for creating this inspiring event and ordering in the sunshine.

We really look forward to all the people who signed up for membership and who took leafelts becoming more involved in any way that takes their fancy.

Many thanks to Reading Sustainability Centre and Refill Reading, who shared the stall with us, helping give it variety and interest for all ages.

Christmas Party and Festive Cards – 7pm Tuesday 12th December

Reading Science & Tech Meetup Groups Christmas Gathering – Tuesday 12th December 2017

We’ve progressed a long way this year, down to the help and support of so many wonderful members, friends and family, so what better excuse to get together to celebrate? Oh yes and Christmas is coming….

As part of Reading Hydro’s aim is to grow awareness of the scheme and the joy of renewable Hydro energy, we’re teaming up with a whole host of other Science, tech and startup groups around the Thames Valley for an evening of sharing, learning, merriment AND a themed Pub Quiz on the evening of the 12th of December.

So get the evening of the 12th of December in the Diary and join us upstairs in Walkabout from 7pm.

Special Edition Reading Hydro Festive Cards

It’s that time of year again, time to get the pen out and reconnect with friends and family all over the world in a good old handwritten personal style. Reading Hydro are delighted that this year we will be offering Festive Cards (with a not to subtle Reading Hydro theme of course).

All profit from the sale of these will go to the development of the Community Benefit Society and growing awareness of the scheme which is voluntarily run.

We’d like to get an idea of demand and numbers to order (as this can also lower the cost). So if you think you’d probably buy a few or more*, then it would be great if you could let us know – either in the Facebook group feed or email Erica directly by this Thursday (23rd of November).

We have the draft design (by Nicky Johnson Designs), however this may be tweaked.  The inside is blank. We expect the cards to cost £1 or less and discounted when buying more.

*Indicating how many you may buy does not commit you to having to buy them,  but will help us get a feel for numbers and we can make sure you’re notified when they’re available at the beginning of December.

Come and join us for a drink and helping us out on keeping the Reading Hydro Project moving forward.

If you are not already a member you can join us at this or any other open members’ event.

We’ll be focusing on applying for seed funding and publicising the project. There’ll also be some specialist ‘jobs’ you could take on or suggest to suitable friends. Bring your ideas, pens and digital devices.

Find us in ‘Area 3’ (middle right) in Great Expectations, London Street, Reading RG1 4PS. If you like, you can let us know you’re joining via our facebook group event or ask any questions in advance.

We hope to see you there!
